[Paddlewise] Porcher Island, BC, Trip

Rich Mitchell, of Corvallis, OR, and his family are planning an extended
sea kayaking trip in the vicinity of Porcher Island and points south of
there, beginning approximately July 15 and ending about Aug 1.  He
invites others interested in going along to contact him for details.  I
believe they will get a shuttle with outfitter Bart Proctor from Prince
Rupert (see http://www.marlintravel.com/oona.htm for a description of
Bart's operation).

Here is Bart's description of the area:

> Last week I had an Australian kayak tour operator out in Oona
> River and we took a cruise around the area and he was really impressed
> by all the small waterways and islands and the fact that the whole area
> was unpopulated. Two of the areas that I showed him was Kitkatla Inlet
> which is about 8 miles south of Oona River down Ogden Channel and the
> other place is about 25 miles south of Oona River down Petrel Channel
> which we refer to as the Anger Island Area. You can easily paddle around
> both these areas for a week as they are big areas. Anger Island area is
> really impressive because it is a series of islands that is like a maze
> with names like Cosine Is. TangentIs. Sine Is. and Logarithmic Point.
> It must been a mathematician that named these islands. This area is
> really protected and they have an unusual passage called Ala Passage
> that hooks up with a series of different little inlets called Irie

I've traveled with Rich and his family on a week-long trip, and can
vouch for their sanity and companionability.  Daughter Annie (age 6) is
a hoot!
