[Paddlewise] Chine kayaks

Some of you may recall some discussions on the relative merits of hard
chine kayaks etc. I have been working on this topic and the attached file
shows some of the data to date.
The first column shows speed in meters per second and the second shows
total  resistance in kN  .

A commercially available hard chine kayak served as base and resembles a
Southwest Greenland boat. The four tables show the original boat, and
boats modified as follows;
#2 had low forward chines as seen on East Greenland type boats, #3 had
concave sections that might occur because the skins deflect inward when the
boat is in the water, # 4 shows a hull optimised for 2 meters per second
using the original as a seed.
In all cases except the optimised version the form parameters were held
constant.
