I always thought this was doue to so many people proclaiming that they
would
"Never be caught Dead in a kayak!"

Two rules of thumb;

1. Getting out of a boat increases your safety only if you are getting on
dry land.

2. Getting into a boat only increases your safety if you are getting into
a lifeboat
   from a sinking ship.

Remember, this is a humor post, but still contains a lot of truth and food
for
thought.

On Country Style, our 3/4 Ton ocean racer, we say "Never get into a liferaft unless its
a step UP."
