I'm sure that the booster rocket that exploded recently (along with its billion-dollar satellite) was very carefully designed and well built. But it simply isn't possible to eliminate all risk of failure-- *particularly* when we are talking about a $200 mass-produced radio that is to be used (and abused) in a marine environment. If you think about it, it is amazing that some of these gadgets work as well and as long as they do...
