It's strange you know when I see posts and read about people who want to kill whales. I live 30 kilometers up a tidal river( northern Tasmania, Australia) and last summer I had the experience of seeing 2 pilot whales come up the the river just near home and then turn around and go back out again.43years old and these were the first whales I have ever seen and I was lucky enough to have my 12yo son with me as we sat on the river bank and watched them for a half an hour not twenty feet away from us.A truly amazing experience. I hope that one day I will get the opportunity to paddle with these giants. After reading lots of posts on the grey whales and the Markah I thought it a stange coincidence that my son comes home to stay the night with me and proudly reads a poem he had found in a book. My appoligies for the length of this post but I would like to share it with you all. The Song Of The Whale. Heaving mountain in the sea I heard you grieving Great whale, crying for your life crying for your kind I knew how we would use your dying, Lipstick for our painted faces Polish for our shoes Tumbling mountain in the sea Whale I heard you calling Bird high notes, keening, soaring, At their edge a tiny drum, like a heart beat We would make you dumb In the forest of the sea Whale I heard you singing Singing to your kind We will never let you be Instead of life we chose Lipstick for our painted faces Polish for our shoes. Thanks for listing Cheers Wilky "When I can't dream any longer I will die" *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************
