This is a reminder and update for the First Annual Rendezvous of
Florida Paddling Clubs to be held on October 10&11, 1998 at the Hidden
River Ranch on the St. Marys River. Early response for the gathering has
been encouraging and the turnout promises to be high.
This will be an excellent opportunity to get to know paddlers from all
over the state, to see what other clubs are doing, and to learn of new
waterways to explore. If your club has a scrapbook from outings, past
issues of your newsletter, or other materials showing club activities,
bring them to display. It's a chance to show off your club's
achievements and get some fresh ideas.
After the Bar-B-Q dinner on Saturday night, there will be a Chief's
Pow-Wow. The president of each club, or one person designated by the
president, will meet to discuss future statewide gatherings. This will
be your opportunity to decide the direction of the Annual Rendezvous.
The goal of the Rendezvous is to promote a sense of community and
camaraderie, "by paddlers, for paddlers". This can only happen if you
participate, so please plan to attend the Pow-Wow and bring your ideas
about how you'd like future efforts run.
REGISTRATION CLARIFICATION: A registration cut off of September 10 was
established to help with overall planning. However, the organizers
realize that not all clubs will hold their September meeting by that
date and will not have a final count of attendees until after their
September meeting. If your club meeting falls after the 10th, please
send an email to (mailto:Paddlefl_at_brainee.com) stating your intention to
attend and provide the date you will have the final count of attendees.
While club registration (one registration form - one point of contact)
is encouraged, paddlers without club affiliation are welcome.
Individuals can find a club from their area, or meet others from their
area and form a new club.
