Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone has any ideas as to how I can keep my feet from falling asleep while paddling a kayak. I'm a newbie, beem paddling less than a year & don't have my own kayak yet. So I rent one when I can afford it and so have only about 20 hours of time on the water. Here's my problem: after paddling for about an hour, my feet fall asleep. I've tried repositioning the foot braces from a point of my legs being almost straight to extremely bent & everywhere in between. Nothing seems to help. Am I doing something wrong, or am I just not used to being in this position for long periods of time, or does the boat not "fit" me? Should I try another boat? I'm 6ft & 175lbs. The boat I have been using is a plastic Sealution. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks! I am a new to Sea Kayaking as well and used to have the exact same problem. Try rolling a towel up and placing it underneath your thighs. You may have to experiment to find just the right thickness but this resolved my problem completely. Properly fitting your seat out once you get your own canoe should preclude the need for a towel in the future. Hope this helps. Ciao! John D. Ed, one of the main reasons for feet falling asleep has to do with the kayak seat. A seat that is too high in the front puts pressure on your sciatic nerve and it's nighty-night feet. Try tucking a 1/4 - 1/2 inch pad under your butt and see if it helps. Also, try some other boats and see if the different seats make a difference to you.
