Re: [Paddlewise] How to ship a Klepper?

I would try UPS. The Klepper folks used to make a printed page or
two about how to ship the boat. I seem to recall that you tape or tie
several of the pieces together, and then wrap the skin around the ribs
for cushion. I also have wrapped lifejackets and other soft stuff
around frame pieces.

It is a good idea to ship the boat in advance if you have a safe
place for them to hold it. (I think UPS will keep it until you pick it
up). You can also ship some of your trip clothes while you are at it.
This will make traveling for you a lot easier.

The bad side to all of this is that I don't think it will be all
that cheap. Check with UPS and let us know your results. I seem to
recall it being about $50 each way for everything when I last did it,
and that was with an inflatable kayak that was lighter, and boxed to
smaller dimensions. If you fly, you could probably take the boat within
your flight allowance if you pack light. I always figure that the boat
is more important than my clothes! My wife does not share this view!

Let us know your actual results.
