>> I recently bought the same Greenland paddle from Superior. I like the oil finish also. However, I keep getting a blister on my left hand. Rotating the paddle from left to right, or turning it over, doesn't help. I can't decide if I prefer the heavier wood Greenland to either of my 2, much lighter, graphite narrow blade paddles. (Eddyline Windswift, old style Werner Little Dipper.) I use the same low stroke with all of them. The wood paddle seems nicer for surfing and sculling. But for travelling I think I prefer the graphite lightness. Jerry >> ************************************************************************** * I find Mark's paddles heavy, too. Greenland paddles made from western red cedar are much lighter, and I have never had one break. There is an article (which needs some rewriting and reformatting) on the Paddlewise Web site on how to make your own for $10 in materials. I say; I carved out a assymetrical paddle , 1 piece from a 2 X 6 red cedar [ clear] . udsed a mini grinder and carved away to very little hand sanding needed and then sanded away, blades are done, maybe 1/4 " at the thickest, shaft needs a bit more sanding. It handles VERY nice so far, smells great too. As of now, it weighs in at 996 grams [ 2.15 lbs] Figure on sanding it down to about 950 grams, then put a very light coat of epoxy to toughen it up... cheaplike borsht, maybe 20 CDn, jsust pennies in USD, maybe 8 hours into it have fun Yours naturally sylvio lamarche Wycliffe organic gardens & Exotic locales all over the globe *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************
