I have found that a variety lures resembling mullet or herring work well trolling for many species. I usually use a floating silver rapala or a "rubber" fish. I have also had excellent luck with surface minnow lures for blue fish. I have given up my pole and reel for a hand line. I use a heavy braided line so I can get a better grip and use a swivel and an appropriate leader. I simply put the line under my deck bungie and paddle!
