I've been subscribed to Paddlewise on and off for about 18 months. Yeah. . . survived the Wave-Length transitions to get away from Tim, "Sponson Johnson." Sounds to me like it's time to start yet another group, one where people don't ridicule your interests.

Just for the record, I've got a pretty extensive background in exercise physiology. Outdoor recreation is pretty much what I do full-time. Yeah, I get paid for it. I've broad experience with camping in arctic, mari-time, desert, and alpine environments. Other intersts include Nordic skiing, cycling, hiking, fly-fishing, and target shooting (former biathlete).

I've a sense of humor, but I think the wise-assed comments here are uncalled for. I'm not going to waste anymore of my time with this group.

I've been more or less lurking on Wavelength/paddlewise for about
five or six years now. Contrary to your outlook, I keep subscribed in
part because of the shenanigans that go on. A bit of humor in one's day
makes it all worthwhile. Here's to the wise asses. Keep it coming.

Even 'wise ass' remarks can be informative. they often contain very
usefull
information, if you look for it.

Humor also helps memory.
I can remember Bill Cosby skits from the early 70's, but can't remember
any chemistry lectures from the same time. :-))

And, I bet you paid more for the chemistry lectures, also!

As a long-time chemistry teacher, I wish I could engrave your statement
on the wall of every classroom in the country where chemistry is
taught. I'll just bore you with one anecdote that grabs the attention
of my students:

When discussing burner safety and showing intro students (never been in
a lab before, most of 'em) I always tell them about the lab partner in
my high school chem class, across the bench from me. This was 1960, so
beehive hairdos were in vogue, and to maintain that stack of hair, a
lotta hairspray was needed. Anyway, she lit the burner, adjusted the
flame to a nice blue cone, and got distracted. She came back to the
bench and leaned forward to read something on the bench, just in front
of the burner, positioning her 'do over the cone. Poof! A nice round
hole appeared in the beehive. As she raised her head, the two or three
of us across the bemnch from her opened our mouths in shock and began to
point at her still smoldering "improvement." Her eyes went up, and she
sniffed once or twice, suspiciously, and announced, "Hey! Something's
burning!"

Hmmm, mondo serious stuff. Sorta curious though -- is a sense of
perspective and a sense of play important to outdoor recreation? I always
thought it was -- at least that's what I preach to my students. Perhaps I
was mistaken, and should be stoned for my lack of seriousness.

(BTW, I know this fellow on the list who can get you a really good deal on
some stones. Seems that he came across some Official Canadian Ballast
Rocks on the sly and wants to unload them.)

I look forward to the information, the silliness, the intense discussions,
and general humour here. Keep on like it is!

I am on several other list that has no humor in them at all and they are
boring. Half the fun is the way every one gets a long and can joke with
each other and feel comfortable. Keep up the good stuff. I still say that
Pure Florida sand is better than the Canadian ballast rocks, it forms to
the hull and its USA made.

i've been around a little less, but appreciate the humor as well. of
course, i sit at a computer everyday, all day long for a living, so some
humor comes as a pleasant relief!! sometimes it does get ridiculous, but i
try hard not to get irritated... it's much more irritating to get html
attachments with someone's mail, or people who reply to the sender of a
post and copy the list... as now they're gonna two copies of the mail,
which was a quote of a 100 line post, to say "me too"!!! i just delete
them... paddle on dude's and dudettes ;-)

Pure Florida Sand is really Canadian Ballast Rocks TM that have rumbled around
the waters for a few millenia and then pushed off on pink haired snowbirds as
sand! LOL
