Now we are going to incure the wrath of Julio for the use of
neck rings. This can be a really interesting debate (as I remember)
when it ran its course on Wavelength long ago. 

Involutary flooding of your drysuit
from a roll or capsize will convince you of the risks. Cold water
shock treatment, and the extra pounds added by water intake
will make self rescue interesting, if not outright difficult.
There will be much to be said on this topic by others I am certain.
