Actually, baidar means boat. The ~ka at the end is/was a diminutive.

Making a baidarka requires more work than making a Greenland kayak
because it has more ribs, and the bow piece has to be carved out
of bare wood.

There are many plans around, from the documented historic baidarkas,
to new designs made by skin boat fanatics.
