Hi Folks-

I am looking for information on paddling Patagonia, especially the areas of
the Straights of Magellan and the Chilean Fjordlands.
Anyone been there?

Thanks,
Sarah Ohmann

Sarah, I don't have any knowledge of Patagonia, but I think that you have
paddled primarily the Great Lakes, so if you haven't already, I suggest
that you take some tidal training and surf classes, such as George
Gronseth's, before paddling there. Also, I suggest reading Bill Taylor's
_Commitment and Open Crossings_ and Victoria Jason's _Kabloona in a Yellow
Kayak_ before you undertake any long expeditions in tidal waters for the
first time. (Bill Taylor did BCU assessments and classes at the Great Lakes
Sea Kayak Symposium last summer. Sam Crowley was enthusiastic about him; he
said Taylor was the type of instructor who could criticize your technique
and still leave you wanting to learn more. Victoria Jason was at the
Minnesota Canoe Association's Far North Symposium last Saturday.) They are
both fascinating books; maybe some of the other Paddlewisers can suggest
others.
