I've been using the SealSkinz socks heavily for over two years now and love 'em! They keep my feet clean while entering a kayak at the scummy perimiter of urban harbors, dry while washing pur fleet of kayaks in a lake/bay after a group trip, and very happy while hiking for 6-8 hours through tropical jungles and XC skiing hard at elevation. To wash them? I just turn them inside out (unless the outside is particularly dirty) and toss 'em in my regular wash, either with cottons or perm press, with either liquid or powder detergents of the Tide genre. They still function perfectly - totally dry, although I would not be able to see any deterioration of the membrane center of the sandwich. Yes, the once the sox "did not perform well" was when we landed on a beach on a southern island in Okinawa province of Japan, latitide about 15, and I was so taken by the beauty of the pristine beach that I neglected to stay tuned in to the pulse of the surf and a breaking wave dumped both sox full of water. SO, now I also have a pair of the over-the-calf variety to guard against a bit higher surf landing. Of course, the top cuff is not a latex dry-suit style and high water just rushes in. I just laughed at my foolishness, rinsed the inside with fresh water, let 'em dry during a delightful food and snorkeling break, and continued wearing 'em 'till the evening. PS, Yes, disclaimer...we sell these so I have a small bias, but we sell 'em because we love our own!
