while in Belgium last week, i had a chance to check some French nouveau. it
supposedly has the flavor of raspberries this year but i think one would
have to drink a few bottles to detect it.

instead i took a hike to see snow/hills/woods/white water//kayak outfitter
in the Ardennes region of Southwestern Belgium. After 5 hrs hiking, we
needed some refreshments. The town of Achouffe happens to have an
outstanding brewery. Brasserie d'Achouffe presents Chouffe-Bok, the Original
Belgium bock ale.

Note that there will be a festival at Achouffe next summer!
Shall we plan a Paddle Outing 15-18 Aug '98: http://www.achouffe.be/fete.htm

The Washington Post has this to say about the brew:
Brasserie D'Achouffe, Achouffe, Belgium): Bottle-fermented ale (decant) with
complex aroma/flavor of coriander, peppery hop, and nutty malt. Chuck the
chardonnay, and instead uncork one of these during Thanksgiving.

I propose a toast to give thanks for the bounty of the season and to wish
happy paddling to all.

Are there any Belgium white water kayakers or other folks on the list who
have paddled those trout filled streams?

bye bye bliven
