I am aware of an incident involving some scientists studying seals and having an Orca incounter. Two scientists were scuba diving and swimming with the seals, when the Orcas arrived the seals started leaving the water in a hurry. The scientists decided to join the seals, but were not as fast at swimming. One of the scientists was grabbed by an Orca. He reported that the Orca took hold of him and felt/tasted the wetsuit and instantly spit him out. I know of no Orca attack on a human, in the wild. In captive situations there have been a few cases of bored whales doing something drastic to get the attention of the trainers. I have seen an Orca kill and eat a 1000 lb leopard seal. If they wanted to kill a human it would be over before anybody could do anything about it. michael brad_at_mth.pdx.edu wrote: > > I ran into a friend on the ferry to Sidney, B.C. Fred swears it really happened. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************Received on Wed Dec 02 1998 - 18:08:56 PST
