No, actually many savvy New Yorkers are catching on to the idea of
carrying marine radios on the subway.  Potential perpetrators put off
pouncing on prospective prey.  They hear the squawk from the VHF traffic
on the radio and think you might be a cop. :-)  And it is legal to use a
marine radio when in subway tunnels under the East and Harlem Rivers.
