My cameras are with me most everywhere and the kayak is no exception as they tend to make me a bit of extra cash on a good day! To this end, there are three paths I recommend you investigate (listed in order of expense) if you want absolute certainty of dry film and a usable camera at the end of your journey: 1) You may stick with a water 'resistant' model - Pentax WR models are fine even in salt water and have taken several dunkings in fresh & salt while strapped to my deck. If in salt, you must however, wash or rinse the beast with fresh water as soon as practical. The photo quality is adequate though, as you pointed out, there is no easy way to us filtration such as a polarizer. The ease of operation, weight and the availability of the zoom is a reap factor here! 2) Contact B&H photo at "http://www.bhphotovideo.com/" and procure the correct model EWA Marine bag for whatever camera & lens combination you might elect to carry (including any of the "point & shoot" models". I use one of these on the Nikon, even under water, and used to use one on the video. The bags for the more intricate models may cost just slightly less than you would pay for the Pentax WR however. 3) Buy a Nikonos! As was noted in another post, these are waterproof period! The biggest problem is learning to focus and adjust exposure with the older models and getting along with a minimal choice in lens size for above and below water (the optics differ in either instance - so does your breathability) Used models of the Nikonos II & III are in the $200 range. The strange people I paddle with use all of these options as you might note from our web site Dennis Higgins - web beast "http://www.execpc.com/~raskal" *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************Received on Sun Jan 31 1999 - 10:21:44 PST
