Does anyone know, please, of any schools or the like which offer instruction on paddling techniques for folding kayaks with air sponsons? I have just purchased a Nautiraid Double folding kayak and have found almost all courses offer help for rigid kayaks or whitewater skills -- I have found a few good books (thank you R. Diaz), but would like to hire personal instruction. Thanks. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************

Thanks. I don't know of any. The closest thing to this was Bill Lozano of Atlantic Kayak Tours in New York. He started off with folding kayaks and had some good Klepper instruction that had great tips such as that point in a capsize about getting the boat on its side where its sponsons would lift the boat and empty out a great deal of the water. But he is pretty much BCU now...the highest ranking BCU instructor in North America. Another is Eric Stiller who worked for Klepper in New York at one point. His specialty is developing a powerful forward stroke which is helpful in wider boats such as folding ones. He does teach kayaking and physical fitness for kayaking but I am not certain what he does now on specializing on folding kayaks. If you are absolutely determined, you could call Bill or Eric to see what they could cook up as a personal set of lessons for you. Bill can be reached at 914-246-2187. And Eric at 201-391-1046. Either one would help in the nuances of rescues with foldables and other things you may want to know. ralph diaz -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Ralph Diaz . . . I think Ken Fink in Maine(?) does instruction with foldables. I'm not at home, so I don't have his email address. (If no one else is forthcoming with it, I'll send you a note later.) Thanks. After reading Ralph's response, it occurs to me some of the multi-day outfitters use folding kayaks and obviously supply some sort of basic instruction to their clients. Maybe some of them offer more than an introduction. If you were to do a web search on something like +"folding kayaks"+instruction or +training or +outfitters you might turn up some leads. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************
