[Paddlewise] kayak camping

You bet I camp out of my kayak!!! As an experienced long distance
backpacker I found carrying all my gear for 600 miles a bit tedious,
even with lightweight ethics. Camping out of my kayak feels
effortless by comparison. It feels like I'm cheating.
I have solo camped for 5-6 days at a time on numerous occasions and
can bring far more gear, food, and luxury items kayaking than
backpacking. I have not used high volume boats either, my personal
boat being a Looksha IV.
As far as the canoe debate goes I don't believe there is much of a
debate. Some like canoes, some like kayaks and all the verbage in the
world won't change that. Personally, as a solo paddler, I prefer the
rough water ability, rollability, and close to the water feel of a
kayak. If I paddled in Minnesota I would no doubt use a canoe. Out
here on the stormy West Coast you simply do not see canoes out on 15
foot swells and 30 knot winds with white caps with solo paddlers in
them. It is a personal choice as much as a technical choice on
calmer, more sheltered waters. IMHO.

Kayak Camping is blissful!
