I was in DC this AM when word got to me that my home in Rhode Island was experiencing the 'blizzard of '99' . I was missing it! I called U.S. scAIR and they advised me that my flight was canceled and the earliest I could get home was Saturday. I could walk home by Saturday. Instead of walking, I called SouthWest Airlines. The friendly crew booked me on a 9PM flight....no problem, they were flying. I pulled (after shifting into 4 wheel drive) the big rig into the driveway by 11. Its now just about midnight and it is beautiful outside. We got about 12 inches of the white stuff and it is really calm. Before the night is through I will either have paddled on the bay or taken the whitewater boat into the hills for some snowyaking. THIS is living!

Sorry about the temps. and precip. in the far northwest. I was practicing my Eskimo rolls in a heated outdoor pool (yes, we're cold water weenies here on the Gulf coast) yesterday. Water temp. 70, air temp 70. Paddled with three compadres on Sunday in the Galveston Channel right next to where I work - blue skies, sunshine, temps in the 60s. The day before it was well into the 70s, but this "blue norther" blew in, with winds gusting to 26 knots in the Houston Ship Channel. We opted for the protected Galveston channel, had a nice lunch break basking in the sun on a sand beach. Ya oughta head to the Gulf coast this time of year to shake the winter storm blues! (having said that, watch it start blowing and raining here, too) Cheers!
