I don't think that the brand matters, so long as the manufacturer is reputable. I agree with the advice regarding the shorty--it makes it possible to wear it with a small fanny pack (worn as a belly pack). These inflatables are great--they make it possible to wear warmer immersion gear without overheating. (As others have mentioned, however, I still use a foam PFD in whitewater.)
