A question is for any folding kayakers.

I noticed that both the Baidarka and Long Haul Products catalogs offer
secondary sponsons that can be fitted inside Klepper, Feathercraft, Folbot and
Pouch kayaks. I called both Baidarka and Long Haul Products. Baidarka had
sold few if any and Long Haul had sold a number but had no no feedback from
the buyers. Neither owner had any personal experience with these secondary
sponsons.

I have a Klepper Aerius II and a Feathercraft K-1, and use large flotation
bags in both which fill the fore and aft underdecks. I wonder if I would have
any noticeable benefit/detriment if I were to use these in my kayaks in
addition to the airbags?

Has anyone used these secondary sponsons? Any opinions from Klepper Quattro
owners?

The sponsons sold by the Klepper Service Center are internal
adjuncts to the standard pair installed in the Aerius II and
Expedition boats and are functionally similar to those that are
standard on the Klepper Quattro. The purpose of these is to
allow adjustments in hull form, from the standard vee shape to a
more round bottomed configuration. This hull shape adjustment is
occasioned by differences in the boat's handling characteristics,
not primarily its flotation. Eric Stiller praised the dual
sponson arrangement after his northern Australia adventure.
Ralph may have some particulars of the ways hull shape influences
handing. I have a pair of Mark Eckart's ancillary sponsons but
have as yet not used them in the boat. They appear to be well
made as we might expect from Mark.

Take your fingers out of your ears.
