I'm planning a trip to Lake Powell in May and I'm trying to track
down a resource for a groover called "BoomBox". Someone sent me the
info and a website a few months ago, but I seem to have lost it. If
you've got any leads.........

Thanks!

Come on guys, I didn't get a single reply from my post on Paddlewise! However,
I did get about 8 replies from my post at BASK Buzz. Roger asked me to repost
his on the Buzz, I thought I'd repost it here, also.

Rob,
Saw your query re "Boombox" for Lake Powell. I reviewed it in the Dec. '98
issue of Sea Kayaker (a highlight of my writing career to be sure) in case
you'd like more information. It has worked well for us in Tomales Bay.

Thanks for taking the time to track it down. GTS website: www.eco-safe.com

Hopefully other kayakers will share your conscientiousness and start using
the "box" on a consistent basis. Especially now that you have the address,
and can hopefully pass it along.

Thanks again and happy wakes,

Rob, I had no idea what a BoomBox is, nor where to start. I am afraid
that the link led me nowhere, so I still have no idea, Would you give
me a hint?
thanks, gabriel

The key in Rob's original post was the term "groover". I think that
the term might be more familiar to whitewater folks but I'm sure the day
is coming (if it's not already here) when ecologically responsible sea
kayakers will be using these also. The origination of the term came from
the "grooves" that were left on one's posterior regions after the box
had been used (to receive solid human waste) . I think the original
groovers were .50 cal (or something similar) ammo boxes. They're strong
and watertight, after all you certainly don't want one of these puppies
to leak! I believe that they were first put to use in some of the
southwestern US river canyons when the Park Service started requiring
that human waste be packed out.
I couldn't get anywhere from the posted link either.

It got me curious, so I looked it up.

Try this:

http://www.eco-safe.net

The page has a list of dealers, too.

Gabriel - I would never have gotten any of those references, either. Thanks Dave for
explaining it.

I actually got 3 variations of the address for this site. The one below is the
correct one. After going through the dealers they list, I found SW Kayaks had
the best price $50.00.
