I have just carved a foam seat for my Pygmy Coho and I'am also installing a Bomber Gear backband. How far above the seat should the backband be positioned or where on my back should it rest? I like my backrest right in the middle of my lower back. Try putting yours as high as you can without comprimizing your ability to lean back during a roll. You can always drill several holes in the side supports of your Coho. The holes should be covered up with hip pads anyway. I just walked out to my shed with flashlight in hand to measure my backband height and took one hell of a fall....much ice. I x-c skied a couple hours today and didn't come close to that full body layout... I am ok. My boat has a 6 1/4 inch height from seat to centerline of backband. I use my legs/ backband in my paddle stroke and find that this height is effective and comfortable. I am 6 foot tall. Hope this helps. frank *************************************************************************** Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ *************************************************************************** *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************
On a Coho, where do you attach the hip pads. Bought a pair with Velcro straps and different foam thickness you can add to make it fit you, but couldn't figure out how to attach. When seated, where do the hip pads hit you, very high up on your thigh next to your hip or on your hip itself. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************
THe hip pads should go right on the vertical support strut that drops down from the inner cockpit rim to the hull, and they should contact your hips directly without touching the thigh. It sounds to me like your struts are forward of your hips, although on my Tern they are in the right spot. Perhaps your seat is too far back, or you may have installed the struts too far forward. You could move the struts, with a little bit of work, or simply bring a thick block of foam out from the hull so that it reaches your hips. Did I guess right at your problem?
