This is a response to Gabriel L. Romea's post about a deck compass. I like the models that only list two digits for the higher compass headings such as listed 280 degrees as 28. The numbers are larger in this format. I have found that I like my deck compass located as far forward as possible. For some paddlers this means they would locate the compass in front of their bow deck shock cord, or bow deck bungies. I went on a crossing with a friend and sea sickness occurred because the compass was too far away and the numerals were too small. I recommend using a red cyalume lightstick from Campmor if you want to navigate at night. I find that I have to splash water onto my deck compass if condensation builds up on it while paddling.
