I also like the Skanorak but I no longer agree about the advantage of
fitting over a PFD: Newer PFDs provide for numerous safety accessories to be
attached (lights, tow systems, knives, radios or cell phones in pockets,
etc.). When I put my Skanorak on over my PFD, these items are no longer
accessible -- if I try to load my Skanorak with them, it hangs and when I
remove the Skanorak, I have to transfer all the stuff back to my PFD. I now
prefer a Gore-Tex paddle jacket w/ latex at the wrist and neoprene or
similar at the neck, under my PFD (e.g. Kokotat - it cost less too).

Strong endorsement on the Skaonarak. I have an ancient one ---
pre-breathable fabrics --- that is an all-purpose piece of rain gear.
Also picked up a slightly damaged (stained) Palm storm cag at a
kayak show --- fits over everything, including the cockpit rim and
the PFD, has a very effective hood, and is bright colored ---
flourescent yellow. No breathability, but is a great piece of gear for
paddling in cold rain. Long zipper so you can paddle with it in
place, and pull it up when needed, but you do have to pull it up over
your head otherwise. GRO has it in their catalog --- not cheap, but
not as expensive as the Patagucci Skanorak. But not as multi-
purpose as the Skanorak, either --- kinda hard explaining the storm
cag's skirt in the 7-11 when you're out for milk on a rainy day.

The GRO catalog also has a Rapidstyle Eskimo Hunter jacket. The hood has
sidecuts for good vision. The fabric is not breathable, but it is lined
with mesh, and the jacket has a diagonal zip for ventilation that allows
you to roll it down around your waist. I almost bought one several years
ago, but the neoprene neck was too snug for me.
