paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net I have to say that I really like Kokatat's products. I have a a Drytop, drysuit, plain old rain jacket/shell, and the super snazzy Tec-tour paddle jacket (all goretex). On the rain jacket and tec tour jacket, I have found the hood to be an outstanding combination of warmth and rain shedding along with easy visibility. The hood itself does trap a little bit of water when rolling, and the non-latex neck does leak somewhat. I really wish I could have mine retrofitted with a latex neck gasket. I have become a little too used to wearing my drysuit, and I hate getting water down my neck. I too have found that latex wrist gaskets are essential in any conditions. For most people, I think the Tec-Tour is about as good as it gets. Except for the price... However Kokatat Gore-tex anything is a great investment in comfort and quality. I have always found their products to be worth every penny, and once the money is spent, you won't regret it. Goretex also makes it much easier to dress for a wider range of temperature conditions than anything else. I also kind of question the wisdom of wearing anything over the PFD. I hate to think of anything that might comprimize its effectiveness. I also keep a tow belt, knife, whistle, flares, signal mirror and snickers bar on my PFD -- pretty hard to access this underneath another jacket. Kevin ps, the kokatat rain jacket makes a great snowboarding shell. ___________________ / Kevin Whilden \ |Dept. of Geosciences \___ |University of Washington \ |kwhilden_at_u.washington.edu| \________________________/ *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************Received on Wed Mar 03 1999 - 15:24:18 PST
