In browsing through some news archives, I found an interesting story about scientists at MIT who have developed a robotic kayak that is used for studying fish, marine mammals, and turtles. The battery-powered kayak is equiped with an on-board computer, GPS navigation, and acoustic sensors used for tracking wildlife. Check out the story on ENN (the Environmental News Network): http://www.enn.com/enn-news-archive/1997/07/070997/07099712.asp (You may have to subscribe to access the article, but if you are interested in environmental issues you will probably find that subscribing is well worth the modest subscription fee.)
