Thank you to all who took the time to respond with advice about fixing split seams on my venerable Nordkapp. Some of you went into great lengths, and it is appreciated. I'm spending the next four days on the repair, using a composite of what everyone suggested (not "composite" in sense of material!). I noticed my original "abuse" message on the digest version today, not sure how that showed up a *second* time. I do have a second question. My hull is almost worn through. Last year I epoxied two layers of six ounce cloth, on the inside of hull (24" wide by 60" long), as it kept leaking through the many repairs. I would like to run some narrower tape on the outside of the hull, along the entire length of the keel line. Anybody had experience with extra hull protection? Seaward Kayaks use a sacrificial rear keel strip of UMWV (some type of plastic, not sure on spelling). Could this be run the entire underbelly, set into the above queried strip(s) of glass tape, like they do with brass half-round on canoes? I promise this is the last question on fiber glassing. I just want to get through one more season.
