The Chesapeake Paddler Association (CPA) will be running a workshop for new and aspiring sea kayakers next month. As part of a data package for our attendees, I'm trying to construct a list of helpful web sites geared, especally, for folks new to the sport or just thinking of getting started. And I'm computerrily challenged! Two years ago, CPA's Joy Hecht put together a good list of sites, but it hasn't been updated for a while and needs work. Does anyone have a list of favorite sites that they'd be willing to share with our mid-Atlantic "newbies"? I know this isn't an original thread for PaddleWisers, and if someone can aim me at the archives, I'll try to dig out the material that I saw going by a while back. But see the last sentence in the first paragraph. What we're looking for is any electronic resource that would be of interest to "newbies" --- or any sea paddler, really --- having to do with boats, gear, safety and first aid, racks, clothing --- general and special purpose --- and anything else that's needed or fun to have. Listservers, BBS's, whatever. If you have an annotated list with a one-liner that describes the nature or purpose of the resource, so much the better. All this electronic hyperlink stuff is still pretty much FM to me, so speak slowly and use small words, please. (Apologies for any multiple messages --- a lot of us are members of more than one of these lists.) Thanks! While it ain't very pretty, my site has lots of links to boat manufacturers, all types of accessories and various types of articles. Just follow 'Sea Kayaking Links'. I have put together a index of sea kayak sites at <http://www.guillemot-kayaks.com/links> It currently contains links to about 230 pages. If anyone else has a page they want listed, please feel free to click on "Add A Link" to send me your URL.
