I really like the Yakima roof racks. I think that the
TLC saddles and Hully Rollers offer both ease of loading
and good hull support. Just like another subscriber I
think that the best configeration is to have TLC saddles
on the front bar and Hulley Rollers on the back bar. Now
all we have to do is to convince Yakima that they should
sell the Hulley rollers in a two pack box instead of the
four pack box that is currently available.
The only downside to the Yakima system is that your
clips can slide on the round bar. I have put a piece if
sand paper between the bar and the clips and have found
that stops the slipping.

Good Paddling and Top Loading,

Dumb question to an interesting post: assuming you're talking
about Yak's "Snaparounds" when you say "clips", how do you
mount the sandpaper strip? Grit in or out on the bar?

With my Subaru Outback's long rails, I've been able to install a
third bar all the way back on the rails --- the Outback takes Yak's
DoubleCross mounts --- with one set of HullyRollers for loading
only. That way, I keep the strength and solid support of the TLCs
for carrying the boat, but get the advantage of the 'Rollers for
loading. Negotiated the deal with another paddler on the list --- just
split the cost. Should think P'Wise would be a good place to
advertise your interest in splitting various accessories for tailoring a
good rack solution.
