This is a post about the sectional hull thread.

A friend that saw the Easter Island Circumnavigation
presentation given by Stan Chladek and Nigel Dennis at
Canoeacopia clarified what happened to their
sectionalized sea kayaks during the trip.
Nigel said that their boats started coming loose in
horrendous seas because they forgot to put locktite on
the bolts and nuts used to connect the kayak sections to
one another. Once they applied the locktite they had no
problems with the sectionalized hulls.

When I put my sectionalized Aleut Sea II together I use
lock nuts and I have had no problems. You must be sure
that you tighten the bolts and nuts completely.

Good Paddling,
Don Dimond

I always use nylock nuts for all fittings around a kayak,
including holding on sections of hull. For those with glass
boats, nylock nuts will allow tightening to a reasonable
tension without crushing yet still not come loose.

For those who don't know a nylock nut - the top of the nut
had a captive ring of nylon that grips the thread of the bolt.
