Costco also sells bicycyles. It does not provide instruction in the safe use of a bicycle nor should we expect them to. Many, perhaps thousands, of bicycle users are killed or seriously injured each year in this country but I have yet to learn of anyone litigating against Costco [kmart,Sears,et al] because the seller failed to inform the buyer that riding a bicycle could result in death or injury to the user. And so it should be with kayaks. The user assumes complete responsibility for her personal safety. Whether this means never paddling in winds stronger than ten knots or waves higher than six inches or mastering every self rescue technique in the book is completely the choice of the user/paddler. Caveat emptor. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************
I can't ignore this thread any longer! Quality is an issue here. The bikes Cosco sells are fit only for the "unfit", not for anyone who takes cycling seriously. To expect Cosco to carry quality brands of Kayaks is a bit naive. If someone feels they can be satisfied with a poorly molded plastic piece of "refuse", and mediocrity sounds like a supreme and nearly unattainable goal, then by all means, consider Cosco. If you enjoy progressing to a high level of competence in each sport you do, and expect to love kayaking, and to grab as much adventure for your self as possible, then I would hope you set your sights a lot higher than cosco.
