Hi Paddlewise Guys,
Another longtime lurker finally surfacing--I have enjoyed reading and
learning from the often spirited "discussions" on various subjects.
Current history - I have been paddling a Wilderness Systems Sealution(plastic
and used) for about 2 years. I also have Dagger Outburst--not much into
whitewater but it's good for learning to maneuver and am working on a
reliable and consistent roll(currently about 80 % onside in controlled
situation, i.e. the pool). Hopefully, will be able to translate the ability
to roll in my touring kayaks. I have just completed a Pygmy Arctic Tern
stitch and glue kit and am pleased with the outcome. It feels quite different
in comparison with the Sealution(it seems much more "responsive" and kind
of "twitchy"-- I expect a bit of a learning curve to become totally
comfortable with it--maybe Kevin can give me a few pointers , as he mentioned
having built the same model recently).
I paddle mostly in a small TVA lake in East Tennessee(only 8 minutes from the
house) and usually from 2-8 miles for 1-4 hours of paddling time. I have
had the luxury of being able to paddle throughout the winter-though not as
often as I would like--but don't be fooled by that statement-the water here
is ice cold in winter-so I dress appropriately. It's also pretty cold the
rest of the year, particularly the first 1/2 mile below the dam of the lake
above it.

I am going to visit Maine in mid-June and will have 2 days of time apart
from my business seminar for paddling . I have looked into outfitters
available and considering H2Outfitters at Orrs Island. Does anyone have
experience with this company or others. Also looking for a nice B and B or
Inn for June 16 and 17: am staying Rockport on the 18 and 19 for the
business part. Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
David in Tennessee, at the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains
