[Paddlewise] Kayak punching and stability

Went home, put the Klepper on the trestles and punched:- the sponson, the
canvas deck, the hypalon hull and the rigid members of the kayak. The
flexible surfaces deflected very significantly and when punching the hard
frame the kayak rocked 2 to 3x as much . Clearly this is a most
uncontrolled, inexperienced and subjective test but I'm convinced that "the
soft sides would dampen some of the impact of these water forces" (page 5
Complete Folding Kayaker). Next weekend will try surf entries and exits for
the first time and really learn about instability!
