My wife and I are in the process of purchasing a tandem kayak. We would prefer polymer construction from a durability and cost perspective. We would also prefer the dual-cockpit design, thinking that it might be a little dryer in chop. There appears to be only three models on the market that meet these requirements: Prijon's Odyssee, Necky's Amaruk, and Wilderness Systems' Sea Two. Some friends have the Amaruk, and we have paddled it once. A dealer near Tarpon Springs recommended the Odyssee, due to its design, size and weight. He had only bad things to say about the Sea Two (Wilderness Systems was his primary line of boats). A little background on the two of us. We are tandem cyclists. All of our vacations revolve around cycling. We don't usually tour, but do long day rides from B&B's, Tandem Rallies, etc. We find ourselves needing a day off from cycling, and we are most often near a body of water that would be great for a kayak. We have owned a canoe for over thirty years, and although we have not used it much lately, I would have to say that we have put many miles on it in the past, and that we are experienced canoeists. The kayak would be something new, and probably more versatile in regard to coastal excursions. Any comments related to the three boats mentioned would be greatly appreciated, or anything else for that matter! Thanks in advance.
