So which Pizza Parlor in Boynton Beach? I live on the Delray/Boynton line. BTW, they've torn the bridge down and are re-building it at the moment. Chuck and I often paddle from my house past the former bridge (and Two Georges) to the inlet and back which is a nice 8 mile paddle. cya -----Original Message----- From: owner-paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net [mailto:owner-paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net] On Behalf Of dmccarty_at_us.ibm.com Sent: Friday, April 30, 1999 12:06 PM To: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subject: Re: [Paddlewise] Gatorade Gunk/Yum Yum/Ain't This Special! >Dan McCarty, Gatorade Free in '99 | Curious coincidence: Dan McCarty was a well respected |Commissioner of Agriculture in Florida years ago, and one of the College of |Agriculture Buildings at Univ. of Florida is named after him. I recollect |taking a Bacteriology course in that building............ There are a few of us around, I'm the FOURTH in my linage. I'm sure I'm somehow related to the other Dan McCarty just not sure how. I think the Ag Commissioner later became Governor of FL, this was back in the 50s. Unfortunately he died within a month or two of getting elected. My father, the Third, went to school in Ft. Pierce, Fl, at a High School named after the late Governor. So DearDad went to a school that bore his name. Pretty cool. I was born in Orlando, Fl, before it became TheGreatTouristTrap but Dan II was from Indiana. Weird thing happened to me, well about 15 years ago. Time does fly! I lived in Boynton Beach, Fl, which is between West Palm Beach and Ft. Lauderdale and near just one or two other list members. One afternoon I had to run and get pizza. For some strange reason I put on an old football jersey that had my last name on the back. I had not worn the shirt in 10 years or so and have not worn it since. When I was in the pizza place a guy walked up to me, said he could not help but notice the name on the shirt and introduced himself as Dan McCarty.... <Play Twilight Zone Music> As I remember it he was related to the Governor. If I had not put on the Jersey we never would have met. Two ships, errrr, kayaks passing in a pizza parlour, so to speak... 8-) BTW, I did get the right pizza order! 8-) Since everyone is bored to tears about my family heritage I'll just add another tid bit. Dan III always tells me that we had Indian Blood and Horse Thieves in the family. He would say it in jest but years ago I found out that Billy the Kid's, Mother's maiden name, with me so far?, was McCarty. She appears to have arrived in New York gone to Kentucky and then out west. I know the EarlyMcCarty's were coal miners in Kentucky and later Indiana. So DearDanIII may have been right after all. BTWII. Billy the Kid really does have an interesting history. His life truly was just like many of the western movies. He just picked the wrong side in an economic/fighting war in New Mexico The US Army actually was brought in by the OtherSide in complete violation of Federal Law. The US Army actually fired into a building occupied by Billy's faction. The Governor of the Territory tricked TheKid into giving up at one point just to quiet things down. The Governor was busy writing Ben Hur and one other famous novel whose name I have forgotten. He did not want to be bothered with what was going on in some parts of the Territory, he just wanted to finish his books. Later...
