A number of the British boats have rear bungees specifically set up to hold
a spare paddle. It would be very difficult to lose a paddle with this
arrangement... two Vs "pointing" aft.

This is a response to the thread that Robert Cline
posted about securing a spare paddle to your deck.
I have lost one paddle myself because I attached it
under the stern deck shockcord when on a trip. I now
secure my broken down spare paddle under my bow deck
shockcord, the same way as many Aussies. The Aussies
taught us that if you capsize and lose your primary
paddle you can grab one of the broken down paddles and
still perform a roll. We have fun with this on some club
paddles. I make sure that my shockcord is nice and
tight. My shockcord has a diameter of 4mm so it holds
the paddles securely to the deck, it makes a slight
twanging sound when I release it.

Good Paddling,
Don Dimond
