Well, not exactly oxymoronic, but at least moronic... While paddling the shore line of south Pender Island (British Columbia) in very thick fog, suddenly an 18 foot power boat emerges, almost on top of us. Over the sound of many fog horns (since the channel he just crossed is a major shipping lane) he asks "What island is this?" Being the honest types that we are, we correctly respond, at which point he immediately turns around and heads at full throttle back into the fog and freighters, in some indeterminate direction.
