These are just very good small stainless steel 'biner-like clips with a wire bale. They are not quick release --- a possible disadvantage --- but, with the two boats essentially rafted up and forward motion pushing the rescuee into the rescuer --- along with Sick One draped across the rescuer's foredeck, needing a quick release may not be much of a problem. Not so on conventional towing rigs, of course.
