Hey, how about a Charleston Symposium report from those of you who attended? (There has to be at least one amusing story/comment involving an expert with a British accent you can share!) Those of us who can't attend (and especially those of us who no longer live near a symposium and who are now suffering from symposium withdrawal syndrome) would appreciate it! In an attempt to get things started: A couple of years ago my wife and I attended the symposium. While she was waiting in the breakfast line at the symposium campgrounds, she overheard a conversation in which the cook was telling the people in line that the eggs were not yet ready, but there was fruit available. A man in line then replied loudly in his British accent, "Fruit? Fruit? Do you think I climbed to the top of the food chain only to eat fruit?" The cook just stood there dumbfounded. She then came over to me and told me she thought she had just met Derek Hutchinson. Hi Frank, Just got back from the first day's events at the symposium. The demo by the young Greenlander, Maligiaq Padilla, was absolutely incredible. Have you ever seen anyone paddling upside down? Last night a tornado was sighted and we were all moved to the emergency shelter, the bath house in the campground. Lots of action around here! Tomorrow is the PaddleWise rendezvous. Looking forward to that. More later....
