You can also get prescription goggles that work like other goggles. I
believe they come in several sizes. The ones I have are small and stay
on during rolls, etc., but they are not good for sightseeing. If I
don't plan on going under, I just use a black Walgreens glasses strap.

On the subject of glasses, I recently purchased the soft plastic "bifocal"
inserts at Walgreens and they are wonderful! I have em in my polarized
mirrored kayaking glasses as well as my Ray Bans. The extra lenses don't
come off when wet but can be peeled off and used in other glasses.

I use a dayglow latex tube (available from scuba shops) and tiny nylon ties
to keep them in place.

I must wear glasses on the water. I enjoy the beauty around
me( the main
reason I'm out there) and, of course, I have to see what
hazards lie
ahead. The problem is that I have lost 2 pairs of
prescription glasses
in as many years. Both times I capsized in large surf which
swept the
glasses with Croakies right off my head. Someone has
suggested running a
cord from the frames to my PFD...I'll probably do that.
Since I am in
the market for new glasses I would to know how others secure
their
eyeglasses. I saw some sport "goggles"...heavy plastic
frames with an
elastic strap in place of the temples. Has anyone tried
these for sea
		kayaking? JAKE

After looking in every outdoors shop in town and not finding what I was looking for I stumbled on it at the local Target store. Glasses straps with built in floatation. I tried them out in the sink and they floated my glasses. They can be tightened up like a regular glasses strap also. My only concern is that they don't seem to stay on the glasses extremely tight. I think when I go on a long trip or if I intend to be in the water a lot I'll take a couple of zip ties and cinch them to the frames. I might try a strap from the glasses to my PFD also, I hadn't thought of that.

I recently visited my eye doctor for a 2 year checkup. While there I asked
about the impact of sunlight on cataracts (yup, got them too) and that I
spend a lot of time on the water. She indicated there is an effect and
indicated my tinted trifocals were not sufficient for that kind of light.
She said either prescription or Polarized sunglasses are the way for me to
go. Since I can see 'ok' without the glasses I'm going to try the Polarized
sunglasses first.

Though I do have a prescription pair of sunglasses, I never wear
them on the water. I always use Polaroid clipons. The polarization helps
immensely but it's too expensive if part of a prescription pair. Try one
late afternoon trip into the sun and you'll be a convert.

quite true, but polarization only cost me $50 extra ... well worth it to
me...
