Yep. It works fine with 1100mAh Panasonic NiCds, although I do have to
switch them out more frequently than with alkalines. The standard
capacity NiCds do not work well--they last only a few hours. The key is
to use high capacity rechargeables. I have been meaning to try the new
1500mAh NiMH batteries, which supposedly work very well (as one would
expect given the high capacity). What is the capacity of the
rechargeables that you have been using?   

If you use your GPS frequently you will find that the cost of disposable
batteries adds up rather quickly. Rechargeables are cheaper to use and
better for the environment.
