A request for information/opinions: In mid-September, my wife and I will be taking a vacation to Maine and the Maritime Provinces of Canada. We've never been to this region before, so we are searching for guidance. I know there are New Englanders somewhere on this list with great advice. Specifically: 1. What's the weather like that time of year? 2. What about crowds--how to best avoid them? 3. Any "must see" places? 4. Good hiking areas? 5. Where to put the folding double in and tour around? 6. Any great places to stay should we wish to pamper ourselves after a run at the great outdoors? 7. Food stops not to be missed? Thanks in advance, Steve *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************
> 1. What's the weather like that time of year? Great weather: Highs 60s-70s, lows 40s-50s > 2. What about crowds--how to best avoid them? Stay east of Bar Harbor > 3. Any "must see" places? Perhaps a day in Acadia Natl Park/Cranberry Islands > 4. Good hiking areas? See above > 5. Where to put the folding double in and tour around? Start from Jonesport or Machias. Watch weather reports and tides carefully. Bring a compass in case of fog, and dress for cold water. Join the Maine Island Trail Association (www.mita.org) for a great guidebook to camping on the islands. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************
