hi, i'm got a BIG problem finding *near real time* NEXRAD images. In the US, NEXRAD radar images are used for monitoring storms, especially fast moving localized storms...so they are very useful for making decissions about where and when to paddle. they had been updated at about 20 minute intervals for 10's of sites around the country. as i understand it, NEXRAD images are from a private company, therefore other companies or individuals usually have to pay to access the data.... FREE images used to be available on one of my favorite websites, but they have updated the site and it seems that the NEXRAD images are no longer available to the public. i can't fine them with normal web searching tools. On the other hand, there is an *archive* of NEXRAD National Mosaic Reflectivity Images at http://www4.ncdc.noaa.gov/cgi-win/wwcgi.dll?WWNEXRAD~Images2 The archive is fine to see what happened, but it doesn't help us plan paddling trips. ============= please help, i hate paddling in thunderstorms! can someones direct me to web-sites that have those great to use *near real time* NEXRAD images....otherwise, it's going to be a rough year dodging thunderstorms. Where can we access *near real time* NEXRAD images? If there really isn't any free website with NEXRAD images anymore, we may want to send email to the national provider who used to supply them and ask that they provide that fine service again... i'd be glad to continue reading their advertizements in exchange for weather information. cu, bliven *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************

Larry, Try this...http://cirrus.sprl.umich.edu/wxnet/ while the images are not real time you usually can get updates every 20min to an hour. I personally recomend that you stick with regional radar summaries because they will indicate not only intensity of the convective activity but also heights and movement using the available loop. Another suggestion for current warnings is...http://www.met.tamu.edu/weather/warnings/ . Have fun !! Have you looked at http://www.intellicast.com/ I've also found useful images, usually Doppler, on websites of local tv stations. Thanks, i have followed all the advice and again have free access to near real time NEXRAD images from the web for my paddling region. my car was struck by lightning a few years ago and i have no interest in being struck again while on the water. so i think that you can appreciate my interest in viewing near real time radar images in chosing times/places to paddle. cu bliven *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************
