here's an issue not addressed anytime recently... human waste disposal.
i am interested in feedback on which potties work/don't work, etc...
how do you all dispose of this "crap" ;-)

Feed the chickens the pig "s...", and feed the pigs the chicken "s..."

We've done a bit of paddling in Canyonlands and Lake Powell where all
boaters are required to carry their own waste disposal units. The units
must be approved by NPS and you must be able to clean them at an RV dump
station. We have used the "Boom-box" (see ads in recent SeaKayaker
magazine) which fits the criteria. It worked well for the week or so that
the two of us were paddling. Actually, we both decided it was much
preferable to digging a hole. Disposal wasn't nearly as bad as anticipated.
We agreed that one person would carry the box on the trip and the other
would empty it at the end. I carried it (bungies on aft deck) and Tony
emptied at the dump station.

An even easier solution is to go through an outfitter. Since potties are
required, outfitters also rent them, and clean them. Only problem is that
the rental units may not be as easy to carry on a kayak.

Hoping everything comes out okay for you,
deb

The December 98 SeaKayaker issue has a review of the "Boombox". We used it
on a Tomales Bay trip: 8 people, 2 days, no problems (someone else had the
privilege of emptying it). Just don't sit on it with your full weight!

I expect more parks and preserves are going to require these.

what about a length of 4" PVC with end caps? Would that meet government
approval? I've seen bigwall climbers use something like this. You can easily
dump it and clean it, it's cheap and fairly indestructible.
