RE: [Paddlewise] An idea for dealing with careless JetSkis/Boats

Once while paddling on a canal, a bunch of drunks in a powerboat tried to
dump us and my wife gave them the finger. The turned around and came
straight for me and missed me by a couple of feet then did it again. Someone
in the backyard of one of the houses on the canal started yelling at them
and they broke off the attack. I carried a gun with me for the next few
months when I paddled that area. I never saw them again.

BTW, that brings up an interesting question. Do most folks on the list carry
their guns in a deck holster or in the cockpit? Are there any skirts or PFDs
with integral holsters? Do any kayaks come with gun ports or glassed in
holsters? Does a kevlar vest float?

		I was once on a club trip when some power boat came a little
close and
		throw up a large wake.  A woman in the group gave them the
finger.  I
		read her the riot act for she had most certainly endangered
us all. 
		What if the operator had had a few too many beers and, in a
form of road
		rage, decided to run over a few of us.  Absolutely under no
		circumstances do anything to provoke anyone who has more
power than you
		and anything with a motor is more powerful than your kayak.
Your most
		powerful form of redress and retaliation is your brain.
Take note of
		the offending vessel's color and description and name.  Use
your marine
		radio to report it or later do so from a pay phone.  In time
repeat
		offenders will get caught and get grounded.
