The International Contender is a single-handed, cat rigged trapeze sailboat about 16-feet long. When capsized, they float high in the water and blow away. When they showed up in Northern California in the Mid 1970s, several Contender sailors ened up in the middle of the pond with their Contenders blown up on the lee shore. Pretty bad scene. The sailors tied a large knot in the end of the mainsheet and clipped that knot into an easy-open shackle sewn into their trapeze harness below the hook. That way, they went downwind with the boat --unless they gave up and tripped the quick release on the shackle. Tethering to the boat with a sensible and familiar rig seems like a good idea to me. bob phillips se MI *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.paddlewise.net/ ***************************************************************************Received on Thu Jun 10 1999 - 16:40:35 PDT
